Recycled aggregate

Crushed Concrete

Recycled crushed concrete from our own licensed yard in Tonbridge, graded and ready to lay, collected or delivered.

What crushed concrete actually is

Crushed concrete is exactly what it sounds like. Hard material that comes off demolition and groundworks jobs is brought back to our yard, screened for rebar and rubbish, then crushed and graded into a usable aggregate.

Because we run our own licensed recycling yard, the material we sell is material we have processed ourselves. We know where it came from and what is in it, which is not always true of recycled stone bought in from elsewhere.

6F2

A well graded fill, 125mm down. Used for bulk filling, haul roads and building up levels where a fine finish is not needed.

6F5

A finer recycled fill, 75mm down. Sits and compacts better than 6F2 where you want a tidier surface to work off.

40mm down

Our general purpose crushed concrete. The usual choice for driveway and hardstanding sub-base.

Type 1 alternative

For most domestic sub-base work recycled crushed concrete does the same job as primary Type 1 for less money.

Where it makes sense to use it

Sub-base under driveways, patios, sheds and hardstanding is the most common use. It also goes down as a working platform on wet sites, as piling mat, and as backfill behind retaining structures.

It is worth saying where it is not the right answer. If a specification calls for primary Type 1 to the Specification for Highway Works, use MOT Type 1 rather than recycled. On adopted highway and most rail work the spec will be explicit, and we supply both.

Recycled aggregate keeps material out of landfill and cuts the lorry miles that come with quarried stone. On a domestic driveway it is usually the sensible choice on cost and on carbon.

Where we deliver

We deliver from our Tonbridge yard right across Kent and South East London, and you are welcome to collect.

Common questions

Is crushed concrete as good as MOT Type 1?

For most domestic sub-base work, yes. Laid and compacted properly it gives a solid base under a driveway or patio. Where a specification calls for primary Type 1 to the Specification for Highway Works, use Type 1 instead. We supply both.

How much do I need?

As a rough guide, one tonne covers about 10 square metres at 50mm, or about 5 square metres at 100mm. Tell us the area and the depth and we will work the tonnage out for you.

Can I collect it myself?

Yes. Our yard is on Sanderson Way in Tonbridge and you are welcome to collect. Bring something that can take the weight and we will load you.

Do you deliver small loads?

We do. Grab lorries carry up to about 16 tonnes and tippers similar, but we would rather bring you 4 tonnes than have you buy 16 you do not need.

What areas do you cover?

Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Bromley, Orpington, Maidstone, Dartford, Bexley, Sidcup, Chislehurst, Swanley, Beckenham and across Kent and South East London.
